Endless Nights

Hey, I just finished reading Neil Gaiman's Endless Nights and I feel driven to freestyle-express my perspective on some of that novel's personifications. I wonder if other people feel the same way when they read that book?

If you haven't read the book not much will make sense after this point... so buy it, read it, it's fun.

Here I go:

Desire
I don't know Desire as anything but sex, I guess I'm just young. Sex is a black, whirling vortex studded with mauling thorns. Sex is a grinder. Sex is black and only half-known. Sex is for control and uncontrollable. Sex is life and the absolute beauty of love. Sex is Oh no, no! Sex is weeping and I don't know why.

Delirium
I see Delirium fully grown into Madness. Madness is the last living freedom left in a boundary world. Madness is vile and evil and stinks of filth. Madness is breaking and loneliness and aspiration and chains. Madness is complete and an end. Madness is no rising or recovery. Madness is complete despair. Madness is rebellion because there will be no acceptance.

If nobody stops me I just might try the rest later.

Funny but it seems to me that "Endless Nights" is graphically the lushest, but quality-wise the weakest Sandman collection I've read. It doesn't feel like Neil Gaiman wrote it.

There's a Sandman summary available here in case you want it.
